  • OK - here is my next challenge - I have ideas for several new articles but I'm already seeing past ones like Cardiff Electric and Halt and Catch Fire? are not all that readily seen unless you hit the page that originally linked them, otherwise they just aren't visible.

What do you suggest we do to organize articles so they can be found In a list or other method?

Show me a way to organize / index / advertise articles and I'll write some more.

    Thanks - still learning.

    • Have like a master page linking to all the articles? i think we can do that.

    • The "Halt and Catch Fire?" page we could combine that with the page "Halt and catch fire" so you would be taking to it when you click "about".

    • The all pages approach will work if we have that page visible somewhere. Doubt most visitor will find the special pages pages!

Can we organize the page further by grouping page categories together?

Should there be a category that will get the article listed on this page, and grouped by a second category if that possible?

    • I will have to look into it. i do have an idea.

    • On my profile i got a few options on how we could lay it out. On the bottom 2 if we move all the categories we want listed under a main one. We could set up a pretty nice looking tree.

    • I got 2 different styles for it on my profile, they could be resized and stuff. Is this what you were talking about?

    • don't know how to look at what you have - if im supposed to can you tell me how to see "your profile?'

      thx

p.s. -- I have been researching what we can do to increase the SEO of the site, and have been following the tips, especially the links both internal and external for almost 2 weeks now.

something clicked over the weekend - if you google "halt and catch fire wiki" we are now the #2 listing behind Wikepedia.

And THEY have an erroneous statement that I'm going to fix and cite the HCF page I wrote as justification. that should help.

And yeah I'm a Wikipedia author from way back ... so I got a logon to do this.

When I started here the only way to find us was to google "Cardiff Electric"

Hope this starts to drive volume (and helpers!)

    • Ya the wiki is starting to move up the charts. But it is sad to see the show slowly dieing. Here is the link to my profile http://haltandcatchfire.wikia.com/wiki/User:Hbk1966

Also you can get to it by clicking my name, then profile.

    • Duuuuuuh

OK, love the way you implemented the indexes - let the system keep it current and complete.

My head says the first one but I like the counts (2nd) better - maybe its that urge to keep high score, or watch growth. Or I just got used to it on the special pages already .....

Maybe if the ( starting the count summary always starts in a certain column, no matter what the category name, the names would be more readable?

    • the Duuuh was from me, guess I logged out

    • I don't know if i can make the counts in one column but I will look into it. Maybe somekind of table mixed with this?

I kinda liked the 2nd one better but I keep telling my self the average person wouldn't care it would just be extra imformation.

    • you and I are thinking quite alike. I had the same thoughts.

I do like being able to keep track of things that grow .....

You decide - go with your gut if need be ... the difference is small.

      Table sounds good, maybe invisible

How to do that - I need it for the "jones girl mystery pages" I can keep the test exactly where I want it and just decided I need an invisible table.

Must be a manual for wikia somewhere - you obviously know the more advanced commands, give me a pointer on tables, or where the "book" is please.

    • Ya the site is run off of mediawiki. They have a lot of stuff on there  site. I havn't found a way to line those up so I think we need to go with the regular. Then we can make a special page with a bunch of statistcs. Using these Here. Near the bottom there is a bunch of stuff we can use.
